5 Social Media Tips Straight from the Pros

“The only constant in life is change.”

Originally coined by a Greek philosopher more than 2,000 years ago, this ancient phrase still rings true today — especially when it comes to social media.

From the elusive algorithm to the latest tools, tricks, and platforms, there’s always something new to learn.

But if you’re a small business owner with limited time, how do you stay on top of all the social media trends?

Here’s the thing: You don’t have to.

(Yep, you read that right.)

I’m here to tell you that mastering a few skills is far more effective than spinning your wheels every time you get on your social platforms. And if you’re having a hard time deciding where to focus your efforts, the Brand Social team can help.

We asked each of our team members to share their go-to tip for better managing your social media, and here’s what they had to say!

Vanessa Bartoe, Social Media Manager

“Reels are available for both Instagram and Facebook — and they’re a great way to entertain your followers and boost engagement. But with so many Reels options out there (click the Reels icon on Instagram and you’ll see what I mean), the process can be intimidating to many people. My advice? Don’t overthink it. Sometimes the easiest Reels perform the best, so just record a simple video with text on-screen or put together a collection of photos with some trending audio, and voila! A unique piece of content to break up your feed and reach a larger audience.”

Nicole Dela Noche, Social Media Manager

“Sure, social media is about posting pictures and content, but it’s also about engaging with your audience in a way that’s authentic to you and your brand. The simplest way to do that: Set aside ten minutes a day to scroll through your feed, check out Stories, and do a little hashtag searching. Like posts that stand out to you and leave thoughtful, original comments that will make people take notice and start a conversation. And don’t be afraid to scatter emojis into your comments for a little added character!”

Becka Masters, Social Media Manager

“Who doesn’t love a tip list?! Putting together a collection of expert tips is a great way to create content that’s easy to produce and something your audience will want to save and share. Rather than packing all of the content into your caption, break your list down into separate graphics and share them as a scrollable carousel. Canva (free online software that’s super user-friendly) is an amazing tool for creating professional graphics that are branded with your fonts, colors, and logos.”

Sara Brown, Content Writer

“It sounds obvious, but you don’t have to use fancy, formal words to be taken seriously, especially on social media. This is the place for building relationships with your audience and potential clients, so write in a way that’s conversational, approachable — you know, in a way that sounds like you. Another tip: Break up your text into little “bites” instead of long-running paragraphs. Doing this will make your posts easier to digest and much more fun to read!”

Mary Jewett, Owner

“My go-to advice for anyone trying to up their social media game: Keep. It. Simple. If you want to put together an edited video or graphic, go for it! But don’t feel like you have to overdo it or over-think every post. In my experience, the best posts are written from your own words, featuring one of your own photos. A simple line or two with a personal photo can go a long way. So, make things easy on yourself every once in a while, and don’t be afraid to get a little personal. This is the best way for your audience to get to know you better. And isn’t that what it’s all about?”

So, if you’re limited on time or just want to streamline your efforts, work these five tips into your strategy, and you’ll be well on your way to social media success!
